The Third İnternational Family Law Conference, jointly organized by Çağ University, the Injuria Legal Platform, the Institute of Law and Human Rights (the Institute), and the International Institute of Family Lawyers, brought together legal professionals specializing in family law, judges, lawyers, mediators, representatives of the academic and educational communities, members of the Milli Majlis, government officials, and civil society representatives.

Welcoming the participants, Mahammad Guluzade, Chairman of the Board of the Institute, underscored the importance of strengthening legal cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, learning from international best practices, and expanding professional exchanges. He stated that such meetings are vital for discussing pressing family law issues, fostering professional dialogue, and outlining future areas for collaboration.

In his address, Professor Murat Koç, Rector of Çağ University, noted that the Conference, held in Baku following previous editions in Mersin and Ankara, serves as an important platform for discussing current issues in family law at the international level. The Rector emphasized that such academic forums contribute significantly to legal ties and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Kamala Mammadova, Director of the Injuria Legal Platform, stressed the importance of expanding joint academic and practical initiatives while taking contemporary challenges into account, alongside promoting a sustained professional exchange of views among legal experts.

Other keynote speakers included Sahra Düzgün Tucel, Head of the International Institute of Family Lawyers; Araz Poladov, Head of the Legislation Development Sector of the Department of Legislation and Legal Policy of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Hijran Huseynova, Chair of the Milli Majlis Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs; and members of the Milli Majlis Fatma Yıldırım and Bahruz Maharramov focused on modern trends in family law, international legal cooperation, the protection of women’s and children’s rights, and legislative reform.

The conference featured panel sessions focusing on current issues, modern legal approaches, and existing legal mechanisms.

The first panel, entitled” Cross-Border Family Disputes and International Cooperation”, addressed the legal regulation of cross-border family relations, jurisdictional issues in international family disputes, joint custody, and legal relations concerning children, as well as mechanisms for international legal cooperation. Lawyers Ersan Barkın, Sahra Düzgün Tucel, İrem İleri, and Konul Yagubova delivered presentations during the panel.

The second panel, devoted to” Development Trends in Contemporary Family Law and International Conventions”, examined property and inheritance law in family relations, the matrimonial property regimes, the legal and psychological dimensions of divorce, and judicial precedent. Speakers included attorneys Esmira Rzayeva, Ayça Özdoğan, Mehtap Açıkses Akpınar, Khayala Jafarova, and Arzu Aliyeva.

The third panel, entitled” Women’s Rights and Gender Equality in the Context of Family Law”, focused on the protection of women’s rights, the promotion of gender equality, legal protections against domestic violence and victim support mechanisms, and the role of women’s organizations in this field. The panelists included legal expert Fidan Mammadzada; Aygun Ahmadova, Chair of the Management Board of the Women’s Development and Awareness Public Union; mediator and lawyer Rahila Agagulieva; and lawyer Feyza Altun.

The fourth panel, entitled” Mediation and Alternative Mechanisms in the Resolution of Family Disputes”, examined out-of-court dispute resolution, mediation, arbitration, practical legal strategies, and the socio-psychological aspects of divorce. The session featured presentations by lawyers Mahura Karimova and Zinyat Agamaliyeva, as well as psychologist Ceren Pakman.

The conference was attended by a total of 87 participants from four countries.
