Information Session Held on the Ethical Conduct of Judges and Lawyers

On April 17, 2026, an information session titled "Rules of Ethical Conduct for Judges and Lawyers" was held for candidates for judicial and bar candidates, legal professionals, attorneys, as well as legal specialists working in courts and other state institutions, jointly organized by the Judicial-Legal Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Bar Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Institute of Law and Human Rights public legal entity.

At the event, Mahammad Guluzade, the Chairman of the Board of the Institute, delivered a speech emphasizing the particular importance of ethical conduct principles within the legal system. He noted that adherence to high ethical standards by judges and lawyers in their professional activities directly affects the quality of the administration of justice. In this regard, organizing such awareness-raising events makes a significant contribution to the development of legal specialists’ knowledge and skills, as well as to the development of legal culture.

During the session, Rashad Hasanli, Deputy Head of the Office of the Judicial-Legal Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, provided detailed information on the ethical conduct rules to judges, the fundamental principles of professional activity, and the relevant international standards. Subsequently, Javid Aliyev, Chairman of the Disciplinary Commission of the Bar Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan, delivered a presentation on the ethical conduct rules for lawyers, addressing lawyers’ relationships with clients, interactions with courts and other bodies, as well as the importance of establishing professional relationships and ensuring continuous professional development.

In the course of the session, Veli Abdullayev, the Chairman of the Shirvan Court of Appeal, and Saadat Bektashi, a member of the Institute's Expert Council and a former judge, answered participants’ questions regarding ethical violations encountered in the professional activities of judges and lawyers.

Within the framework of the session, participants exchanged views based on practical examples, and ways to ensure ethical conduct were discussed.
