The series of training courses for lawyers has been completed

The series of training courses on Articles 3 and 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), within framework of joint cooperation between the Institute and Council of Europe Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law has been completed. 

On October 17, training on “Article 3 of the ECHR. Prohibition of Torture in Azerbaijan in the perspective of the European Court of Human Rights” was held at the Institute of Law and Human Rights.  The training was attended by 17 lawyers of the justice departments, prosecution and judicial bodies, members of the Bar Association.

The participants were explained the positive and negative obligations under Article 3 of the ECHR in order to improve the professional level of lawyers working in public institutions.

Expert -trainer Vusala Muradkhanli made a presentation in which she outlined the essence of Article 3 of the ECHR, the position of the European Court in relevant decisions, the differences between inhuman and degrading treatment and punishment. She also presented general information about the negative situations that will arise when they are deliberately applied to people.

In his presentation, legal expert of the Institute, Vafaddin Ibayev spoke about legal violations identified during torture, inhuman or degrading treatment and punishment, and the ways to eliminate them. At the same time, he noted the important obligations of the legal framework for the prevention of these cases in national legislation and the responsibility for mandatory medical interventions provided for in this article.

The solution of the legal cases was carried out with the participants in groups, and the training was evaluated. At the end training participants were awarded with certificates.
