A training session held for journalists within the framework of “Human Rights Month”

On June 12, within the framework of “Human Rights Month”, media representatives took part in training session on the protection of human rights and freedoms, organized by the Institute of Law and Human Rights in cooperation with the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The main goal of the training is to prevent human rights violations in news disseminated in the media, promote moral values ​​based on gender and legal equality, emphasize the need to respect human dignity and human rights in society, and encourage journalists to approach these issues sensitively.

Vafaddin Ibayev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Institute, speaking about a series of educational trainings conducted in the field of human rights protection, noted that the Institute constantly conducts agitation events not only for employees of state institutions, but also for the broader public in this direction. He highlighted that their meeting with journalists was the result of fruitful cooperation with the agency.

Raksana Karimova, Head of Department of the Media Development Agency, drawing attention to the fact that the event is being held during the timeframe dedicated to Human Rights Day, noted that it is extremely important to respect human rights and freedoms when creating media content, and that the “Law on Media” of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the “Code of Ethics” for Azerbaijani journalists are unambiguous and take a sensitive approach in this matter, and also provided information on the measures taken by the Agency in the relevant direction.

The Institute's expert - trainers delivered presentations on the principles of the Code of Ethics for Journalists, the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the European Convention on Human Rights focusing on prevention of the media from spreading discriminatory content or inciting hatred.

During the discussions, questions of interest to journalists were answered, interesting case proposals were brought forward, and certificates were presented to the journalists participating in the training.

It should be noted that the Institute of Law and Human Rights, together with the Media Development Agency, within the framework of “Human Rights Month”, from May 18 to June 18, launched a public appeal campaign aimed at educating journalists in the field of human rights. The campaign's first social media poster issued a public message against hate speech.
