Training for lawyers was held in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic

On October 6, the Institute of Law and Human Rights conducted training for lawyers at the Bar Association of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. 

The training on “Article 3 of the ECHR. Prohibition of Torture in Azerbaijan in the perspective of the European Court of Human Rights” was held with the support of Council of Europe Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law. The training was attended by 21 employees of the justice departments, prosecution and judicial bodies, members of  the Bar Association.

 The Institute's trainer Vusala Muradkhanli made a presentation in which she outlined the essence of Article 3 of the ECHR, the position of the European Court in relevant decisions, the importance of the role of law enforcement authorities and the court in the correct and impartial investigation of cases of torture and inhuman treatment.

Expert-trainer, member of the Bar Association, Gunel Ismailbayli commented on the statements under Article 3 and provided information on which treatment is inhuman or degrading according to the precedents of the European Court. She also presented information about torture and cases that lead to the violation of the Convention.

During the training the participants discussed the precedents of the European Court of Human Rights in different countries regarding violations of Article 3 of the Convention. The training participants also exchanged ideas on the ways and methods which ensure that no one is subjected to torture, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment in accordance with the obligations of member states.

The solution of the legal cases was carried out with the participants in groups, and the training was evaluated. At the end training participants were awarded with certificates.
