An Information Session on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights’ Held in Nakhchivan
On April 28, the Institute of Law and Human Rights, within the framework of the ‘Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty’, convened an educational event at the initiative of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
An information session entitled ‘Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights’ was conducted at Nakhchivan State University, bringing together 42 participants, including representatives of the judiciary, the prosecutor’s office, central and local executive authorities, as well as academic staff, students, representatives of non-governmental organizations, and local media outlets.
At the opening of the event, Ms. Vahida Bayramova, Head of the Department for the Protection of Human Rights and Legal Awareness at the Ombudsman Institution, delivered a speech. In her remarks, she addressed the legal challenges arising from the development and deployment of artificial intelligence. Ms. Bayramova emphasized that such educational initiatives are of critical importance for the protection of human rights and play a substantial role in strengthening mechanisms for the safeguarding of human rights and freedoms.
Subsequently, Mr. Heydar Hasan oghlu Aliyev, a trainer-expert of the Institute, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the topic. He elaborated on the measures envisaged in the ‘Artificial Intelligence Strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2025–2028’. In his presentation, Mr. Aliyev examined the positive and negative implications of artificial intelligence for human rights, outlined the applicable ethical and legal frameworks, and highlighted information security risks associated with its application across various fields.
It should be emphasized that such information sessions make a significant contribution to the comprehensive discussion of the interconnection between technological advancements and human rights and promote the effective implementation of legal frameworks. Furthermore, they play a crucial role in the early identification and proactive resolution of potential challenges associated with the future utilization of artificial intelligence.
