The Second Law Olympiad, titled “Victorious Azerbaijan” has commenced for students
On November 30th, the Second Law Olympiad, titled “Victorious Azerbaijan,” held in honor of the birthday of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, was launched under the joint organization of the Azerbaijan Bar Association (ABA) and the Institute of Law and Human Rights (ILHR).
The Olympiad comprises three stages and involves students’ teams from all law faculties functioning in the country, including ADA University, the Academy of Public Administration, the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Heydar Aliyev Academy of the State Security Service, the Customs Academy of the State Customs Committee, Baku State University, Karabakh University, the National Aviation Academy, and Nakhchivan State University.
The purpose of the Law Olympiad is to evaluate and develop students' proficiency in constitutional, criminal, and civil law.
The Olympiad receives organizational support from the Bar Association Academy, the "Kengerli & Partners" Law Office, and ELSA Azerbaijan (the European Law Students’ Association).
The event was attended by the chairman of the Bar Association, Anar Baghirov, the chairman of the Board of the ILHR, Mahammad Guluzade, the chairman of the Judicial Selection Committee, Vidadi Jafarov, representatives of the Bar Association Academy, as well as university-appointed group leaders and 45 students.
The ceremony commenced with the playing of the National Anthem, followed by a minute of silence to honor of the cherished memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan’s independence and territorial integrity.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the Bar Association, Anar Baghirov, welcomed the participants, wished them success, and emphasized the importance of organizing such legal competitions in the country.
He highlighted his organization’s support for youth in recent years, through memorandums with all universities’ law faculties, and numerous beneficial collaborations. He noted the first ever participation of Karabakh University with the support of the Bar Association and expressed a hope that participation of international teams in such Olympiad in the future would also make a significant contribution to the development of legal profession.
At the same time, Anar Baghirov emphasized President Ilham Aliyev’s support for the youth of our country, highlighting his pride in their achievements. Under the leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Azerbaijani youth liberated the occupied territories of our country during the 44-day Patriotic War that began in September 2020 and during the anti-terrorist operations in September 2023.
Following this, Mahammad Guluzade, Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Law and Human Rights (ILHR), addressed the participants and provided information on the objectives and significance of the Law Olympiad. He discussed the role of such competitions in fostering intellectual development among youth and noted that there are currently vast opportunities for students to develop their knowledge and skills.
Vidadi Jafarov, Chairman of the Judicial Selection Committee and judge of the Supreme Court, wished success to the participants of the Law Olympiad and highlighted the special importance of competitions in the field of law. He also mentioned Karabakh University’s participation with great satisfaction. In their speeches, the Rector of the Bar Association Academy, Doctor of Law Sciences, Professor Amir Aliyev, and the head of the "Kengerli & Partners" Law Office, Ismail Kengerli, extended best wishes to the participants, talked about the significance of the competition, and explained the regulations and rules of the contest.
The competition then commenced with the participation of nine teams composed of five students each answering 50 test questions within 90 minutes. At the end of the first round, the answers were checked, and the results were announced.
Thus, the Police Academy and the Academy of Public Administration each scored 49 points, the Heydar Aliyev Academy of the State Security Service scored 48 points, Nakhchivan State University scored 45 points, Baku State University scored 44 points, the National Aviation Academy scored 41 points, the Customs Academy and ADA University each scored 37 points, and Karabakh University scored 36 points.
It is worth noting that the online participation of the Karabakh University and Nakhchivan State University teams was ensured by the organizers.
The next round of the Second Law Olympiad will be held on December 14th, and the final will be held on December 21st.
At the end, prizes will be awarded to winners and participants.
