The charity concert “Nowruz Wreath” for convicted women was held

In March of last year, newly built modern penitentiaries for minors and convicted women, who are a vulnerable group of our society, were put into operation in Baku. Paying special attention to the protection of human rights, including the rights of prisoners, the head of our state, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, visited these institutions and got acquainted with the modern conditions created on the spot.
The measures taken serve the effective re-education and reintegration of convicts into society. In its turn, the Ministry of Justice, together with the relevant institutions of civil society, is consistently working in this direction and organizing cultural and educational events.
On the eve of the Nowruz holiday, one of the favorite holidays of our people, a charity concert “Nowruz Wreath” was held for the prisoners of the women's colony No. 4. The concert was jointly organized by the Ministry of Justice, the Institute of Law and Human Rights and the Bar Association.
The event was attended by the heads of the organizing institutions, representatives of the Office of the Ombudsman, the Social Services Agency, the Center for Legal Expertise and Legislative Initiatives, lawyers, representatives of foreign embassies in our country and international organizations, members of the Public Council under the Ministry of Justice, other public institutions and media representatives.
The purpose of the event is to draw public attention to women's rights and create conditions for the social adaptation and reintegration of the convicted women through  demonstrating their skills.
First, in the colony the celebration of Nowruz was organized, the main characters of the holiday, Kosa and Kechel, greeted the participants with national songs and staged an egg fight.
Then, at a concert held with the participation of the institution's amateur association, female prisoners performed songs and dances in national costumes .
In order to encourage convicted women to demonstrate their skills and talents, an exhibition-fair of their handicrafts was organized as part of a charity concert .
Proceeds from the sale of tickets and handicrafts will be used to support prisoners and provide them with the necessary products at their request. The convicted women have also been awarded with memorable gifts.
The concert program was met with a great interest by the participants of the event and they highly appreciated all the conditions created for convicted women including measures for their effective re-education and reintegration into society.
