December 12 is a Memorial Day of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, architect and founder of modern Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev.

The existence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which regained its independence at the end of the 20th century and today has become one of the fastest growing states in the world, is the result of the historical and unprecedented activity of Heydar Aliyev, who created the modern history of Azerbaijan, and the people rightly consider him as a national leader.
The thirty-five-year period of the glorious history of Azerbaijan, which began in the late 1960s and continues into the 21st century, is associated with the name of great leader Heydar Aliyev. Within all these years, the national leader successfully led Azerbaijan, through the difficult trials of history and created a strong, democratic, secular, modern Azerbaijani state that has its independent position in the world community.
Under the leadership of the head of our state Mr. Ilham Aliyev who successfully continued putting into life the principles of the domestic and foreign policy, strategic and political lines of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijan has become a dynamically developing country and acquired the image of a reliable partner in the international arena nowadays.
Contemporary and independent Republic of Azerbaijan is the masterpiece of Heydar Aliyev, and in order to turn the country into a powerful state, it is vital to steadily follow the policy initiated by Heydar Aliyev. Our grateful people endlessly cherish the personality of the wise Heydar Aliyev, who loved his homeland and people more than his life, keeps a bright memory of him in their heart and remembers him with great respect.
