The 5-day Training of Trainers (ToT) has been completed
The Institute of Law and Human Rights together with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN OHCHR) held 5-day human rights training for 20 lawyers within the framework of the Training of Trainers (ToT) project on June 24-29.
The Chairman of Board of the Institute of Law and Human Rights, Mahammad Guluzade, in his opening speech, expressed optimism that this project would have a positive contribution on the professional activity of the participants and wished them success in the training.
The main distinctive feature of this training compared to others is that the Institute conducted a survey among the participants prior to the training to assess their interests in the field of human rights. According to the results of the survey, such urgent topics as the right to a pension, resolution of labor disputes, property rights protection were put on the agenda fora more comprehensive and complete training of participants
At the trainings Vafaddin Ibayev and Natavan Rustamova, Deputy Chairmen of the Board of the Institute, Fariz Alizade, judge of the Yasamal District Court of Baku, Akif Alizade, Arzu Aliyeva and Babek Hamidov, members of the Bar Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as employees of the Institute, Vusala Muradkhanli, Gulnaz Alasgarova, Hamlet Babayev, Ulvi Abbasov, Heydar Hasan oglu Aliyev, Araz Abdullasoy, Zohra Kangarli, Aygun Arifli and Farasat Gurbanov delivered presentations on the topics.
During the events, the participants got acquainted with the organization, rules and methodologies of conducting the training. At the same time, they reviewed the main international instruments, including national legislation in the field of human rights, human rights protection mechanisms, articles of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), Article 1 of Additional Protocol No. 1 of the ECHR, constitution and human rights, they got extensive information about the responsibilities of the police in ensuring human rights, as well as women's and children's rights, intellectual property rights. In addition, the participants learned about the European Committee against Torture and the UN’s minimum standards of treatment of prisoners.
In the training, characterized by extensive discussions and exchange of ideas, the participants performed practical tasks within 4 groups under the guidance of a team of tutors and delivered their presentations.
At the conclusion of the training, with the participation of UN OHCHR project coordinator Rashad Aliyev, certificates were awarded to the lawyers, and they were included in the training database of the Institute for future cooperation opportunities.
