In the 17th issue of the newspaper “Республика” (Republic) dated January 26, 2023, an article by Sevinj Huseynova, a researcher at the Legal Research Department of the Institute of Law and Human Rights, entitled “Protection of victims of human trafficking: in the context of international and national legal norms” was published.
The article shows that it is important to determine the status of the victims in order to remove them from the state of exploitation, to ensure their immediately physical and psychological needs, and to implement appropriate protection measures. In the article, the author emphasizes that the programs and concepts that ensure the fight against human trafficking in international and national legal acts contain such areas of activity as the prevention of human trafficking, assistance to victims of human trafficking, detection of criminal acts related to human trafficking and punishment criminals.
It becomes clear when reviewing the normative legal acts mentioned in the article, that the victims have such rights as respect for their human rights and they should be granted the right to self-determination, protection, security and personal care. They should not be discriminated. The right to privacy of victims of human trafficking must be respected.
Victim protection is always a priority, and prior to a criminal investigation, law enforcement must ensure that victims are protected and placed them under surveillance to provide their safety.
