On September 29, Chairman of Board of the Institute of Law and Human Rights, Mahammad Guluzade, met with the head of the Council of Europe's representative office in Azerbaijan, Mr. Petr Zikh.

The head of the Institute thanked P. Zikh for supporting Azerbaijan in the process of strengthening the implementation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in accordance with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and ensuring the timely and effective implementation of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), as well as for fruitful cooperation. M. Guluzade expressed his hope that the project funded by Council of Europe “Support for the improvement of the execution of the European Court judgments by Azerbaijan” will contribute to increasing efficiency and strengthening the quality of the judicial system. Additionally, he brought to the guest's attention the latest progress on the series of trainings intended for lawyers on Articles 3 and 6 of the ECHR, organized jointly by the Institute with the Council of Europe’s Directorate General on Human Rights and Rule of Law.

While expressing his gratitude to the Institute for an effective cooperation, Petr Zikh mentioned that those trainings, coinciding with the seventieth anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights, would be useful for developing the work qualifications of attorneys and lawyers. At the same time, Mr. Zikh presented full information about the new project of the Council of Europe named “Promoting media professionalism and freedom of information in Azerbaijan”. In his turn, Mahammad Guluzade spoke about the work done by the Institute regarding the monitoring of mass media publications from the perspective of human rights.
