Training Session Held for State Tax Service Personnel on the Rights of Persons in Custodial Settings
On 11 July, the Institute of Law and Human Rights (public legal entity) conducted a training session for personnel of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the topic entitled ‘On Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of Persons Confined in Places of Detention’.
Mr. Mahammad Guluzade, Chairman of the Board of the Institute, delivered a comprehensive overview of the Institute’s initiatives in the field of legal awareness and education. Mr. Guluzade highlighted a range of digital legal resources developed by the Institute, including the virtual library, an interactive human rights map, a comprehensive database of legal scholars, and the PASS Platform. He noted that these innovations aim to simplify access to legal information and promote informed decision-making among legal professionals and researchers. He also expressed confidence in the continued development of constructive and sustainable cooperation between the Institute and the State Tax Service.
The event encompassed deliberations on key issues pertaining to the protection of human rights in detention facilities, including ethical standards of conduct, the absolute prohibition of torture, the improvement of custodial conditions, the implementation of gender- and age-sensitive approaches with due regard to women and children, and international standards applicable to detainees’ treatment.
During the interactive module of the training session, participants engaged in constructive discussions on the topic presented. Upon conclusion of the session, certificates of participation were awarded to 14 attendees.
