The Institute of Law and Human Rights continues to implement consistent efforts at enhancing the international recognition of Azerbaijani legal scholars and improving h-index (Hirsch index) rankings, thereby making a significant contribution to the systematic development of this field nationwide.

As part of these ongoing activities, on April 7, the Institute organized an information session entitled” Methods for Improving the H-Index and the Fundamentals of Academic Legal Writing.” The session featured presentations by members of the Institute’s Expert Council, namely Jeyhun Garajayev LLD; Nail Abbasov, Judge and PhD in Law; Gulnaz Rzayeva, LLD, lecturer at Baku State University (BSU); as well as Khadija Abbasova, Executive Editor of the BSU Law Review. The speakers shared their knowledge and professional experience with the participants.  

Detailed and practice-oriented information was provided during the session on expanding publication opportunities in international academic journals, establishing and strengthening cooperation with international academic communities, the mechanism for calculating the h-index, its formation stages, as well as organizing academic activity in accordance with international standards. Particular attention was paid to the process of academic legal writing. The speakers systematically explained key stages such as topic selection, working with sources, citation rules, structuring academic texts, maintaining academic style, and developing effective strategies for improving the h-index. It was emphasized that although these processes may appear complex at first glance, the application of a sound methodological approach can significantly enhance both the quality of scholarly work and its international visibility.  

The event was attended by legal researchers, law students, and other individuals interested in academic writing. During the session, participants’ questions were answered, practical recommendations were provided, and ways of overcoming challenges encountered in the preparation of scholarly articles were explained.
