On September 22, the Institute of Law and Human Rights held a training session for employees of the Ganja City Executive Authority on “Protection of Property Rights and the European Convention.”

At the opening of the event, Adil Tagiyev, Deputy Head of the Ganja City Executive Authority and Head of the Department for Social-Economic and Architectural-Construction Affairs, spoke about the importance of protecting property rights as one of the duties of a state governed by the rule of law. He noted that studying international experience in this field and considering the provisions reflected in the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights help improve the legal approaches in the work of state institutions. He emphasized that such training sessions would help employees approach property rights issues with greater care and on a sound legal basis.

During the training, Hamlet Babayev, Head of the Institute’s Department for Human Rights Training and Expertise, and trainer-expert Heydar Hasan oglu Aliyev delivered presentations. The training covered issues related to the protection of property rights under national legislation, the case law of the European Court concerning property rights, and the implications of judgments issued in cases concerning Azerbaijan.

In the practical part of the training, hypothetical cases were discussed. Participants analysed various legal situations and exchanged views on preventing possible violations of property rights and applying legal protection mechanisms.

The event continued with answers to participants’ questions and interactive discussions on the topic.
