The Chairman of the Board of the Institute met with World Bank representatives

Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Law and Human Rights, Mahammad Guluzade met with employees of the World Bank representative office in Azerbaijan, Senior Governance Specialist, Eva Melis, Governance expert, Carsten Mahnke and Project Coordinator for the judicial modernization projects in Azerbaijan, Ramin Garagurbanli.

The Chairman of the Board informed the guests about the activities of the Institute in 2023 and expounded on the achievements within the framework of effective international partnership. M. Guluzade gave information about a series of trainings organized by trainers-experts of the Institute for the employees of state agencies, representatives of local executive authorities and law enforcement officers and related to the development of skills important for strengthening the implementation of fundamental human rights and freedoms. At the same time, the Head of the Institute pointed up that the World Bank, through its projects, has made a great contribution to the reforms carried out in the legal and judicial system of Azerbaijan.

Representative of the World Bank, Eva Melis spoke about ongoing projects to develop reforms of the judicial system in the country. She mentioned that within the framework of these activities, World Bank provided the necessary technical support to the government of Azerbaijan in such areas as updating the judicial infrastructure, developing e-services, transparency of the judicial system, improving legal assistance services provided to citizens.

During the discussions, the Chairman of the Board noted that this meeting would be effective for establishing cooperation between the Institute and the World Bank in the future.

It should be emphasized that in 2018-2020, with the support of the World Bank, the Institute implemented the project “Provision of legal assistance services”, within the framework of which about 8,500 citizens used free legal assistance services.
