The employee of the Institute participated in the public hearing

On November 4, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) and the Milli Majlis Committee for Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology held a public hearing themed “Combating the Landmine Threat - Impact of Explosive Ordnance on the Ecosystem”. Vusala Muradkhanli, the head of the Human Rights Training and Expertise Department, represented the Institute of Law and Human Rights at the event.

The public hearing was organized to discuss the hindrances to the safe environment and social development due to the landmine problem faced by Azerbaijan and to exchange views on joint solutions in this direction.

The participants discussed the difficulties associated with the demining of territories liberated from occupation after the 44-day Patriotic War and the environmental consequences of plastic waste generated during landmine explosions. The participants also conferred about the threat posed by landmines to people's right to life and the ways to overcome the problems which lead to turning innocent people into victims of landmine terror.

At the end, the Mine Action Agency presented a video reflecting the activities to combat the landmine threat.
