On April 22, the Institute of Law and Human Rights, together with the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, organized an information session for representatives of media organizations within the framework of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty”.

This important event on the topic “The Constitution as a Supreme Legal Document: Guarantee of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms in the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was held with the participation of 27 media representatives.   

In his opening remarks, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Institute, Vafaddin Ibayev welcomed the participants and spoke about the fruitful cooperation between the Media Development Agency and the Institute. He also provided information about the Institute's resources and events, which may be useful to journalists.

In his speech, Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency Natig Mammadli spoke about the main tasks facing the media within the framework of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty”. He highlighted that during this period, one of the main responsibilities of the media is to properly convey to society the rights and freedoms, as well as constitutional principles.

N. Mammadli also emphasized the importance of the media serving as a reliable and objective platform in promoting democratic values.

The Institute's trainer-experts, Zumrud Alizade and Heydar Hasan oghlu Aliyev, delivered an extensive presentation on the essence of human rights, fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution, and international protection mechanisms. In addition, issues related to education, labor, housing rights, freedom of creativity, use of the mother tongue, as well as civil and political rights enshrined in the Constitution were also discussed.

The information session concluded with a mutual exchange of views and answers to participants' questions.
