On December 8, the Baku Office of the Council of Europe organized a presentation on the topic: “Domestic Violence as a Violation of Human Rights”. Under the moderation of the project manager Parvana Bayramova, a presentation was made by Latif Huseynov, the judge of the European Court of Human Rights and Jeyhun Garajayev, the judge of the Constitutional Court. Our employee Gunel Aliyeva also took part in the webinar held on the ZOOM platform.

At the event participants were discussed: the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the Prevention of Domestic Violence", the mechanism of protection against domestic violence in the country, as well as certain provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence. The participants discussed the compliance of the legislative framework in the field of violence against women and domestic violence in Azerbaijan with the standards of the Council of Europe and other international organizations, and also considered gaps existing in the legal acts.
The participants also discussed in detail such issues as attitudes towards domestic violence in Europe and the world, forms of domestic violence, domestic violence in international courts. It was noted that it would be expedient to study the experience of the European Court of Justice in relation to domestic violence in more depth. An exchange of views took place on the approach of the European Court of Justice and the statement of the Council of Europe on domestic violence.
