On November 1, an employee of our Institute, Ilham Aliyev, participated in the online discussion on “Procedural safeguards in the criminal proceedings” within the framework of the project “Strengthening the role of non-governmental organizations in the process of judicial reforms” organized by the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and Rule of Law (MPFPR), the Azerbaijan Law Society (ALS) and the financial support of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
At the event, the participants were given information on such existing opportunities within the framework of the projects of the European Union and the Council of Europe as trips to Europe for the judges; , participation in the training on the case law of European courts, getting access to electronic versions of court decisions to facilitate acquaintance with themthrough the Internet.
During the discussions, proposals were made such as Recommendations on reducing the dependence of judges on the Judicial-Legal Council, reducing the role of the Ministry of Justice in the Judicial-Legal Council and choosing a body that oversees the judiciary from the court itself were also brought forward during the discussions. The participants also discussed discussed the issues related to the elimination of problems arising in connection with the protection of the social rights of low-income families and the improvement of legislation.
