The Institute held a round table on the topic “International legal responsibility for the crime of genocide”

On March 6, a round table on “International legal responsibility for the crime of genocide" was held within the framework of cooperation of the Institute of Law and Human Rights and the Bar Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Chairman of the Board of the Institute delivered an opening speech at the event and noted that the dozens of research works carried out by the Institute, which set out facts exposing criminals about tragedies and genocides committed against Azerbaijanis and the Azerbaijani state throughout history, were brought to the attention of the world community.

The rector of the Academy of the Bar Association, J.S.D, Professor Amir Aliyev, noted in his speech that relevant petitions have been submitted to international organizations to identify and bring to justice in accordance with the current legislation the perpetrators who participated in organizing and committing serious crimes against our people, as well as facts of gross violations of international law and human rights and freedoms.

At the event speeches were delivered by MP Bahruz Maharramov, Professor of the Faculty of Law of Istanbul University Fethi Gedikli, Professor of Ankara University Javid Abdullazade, ANAMA representative Farhad Isaev, Dean of the Faculty of Law of BSU, Ph.D. Zaur Aliyev, Head of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology of BSU, Professor Shahla Samedova, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law of BSU, Ph.D.  Alovsat Allahverdiyev, Associate Professor of the Department of History of Azerbaijan, BSU, Ph.D. Boran Aziz, member of the Presidium of the Bar Association Ilhama Hasanova  and employee of the Institute of Law and Human Rights, Ph.D. Ilham Malik oglu Aliyev.

During the discussions, the provisions of the Convention “On the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide” were analysed, and mechanisms for bringing perpetrators to justice in modern and current conditions were also touched upon.
