Final Stage of the Second Legal Olympiad Titled ‘Victorious Azerbaijan’ Held Amongst Students
On December 21 of the current year, the final stage of the Second Legal Olympiad titled ‘Victorious Azerbaijan’, dedicated to the birthday of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, was successfully conducted. The event was co-organized by the Azerbaijani Bar Association (ABA) and the Institute of Law and Human Rights (ILHR).
The concluding stage of the Olympiad, held at the administrative headquarters of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was preceded by an opening address delivered by the Deputy Chair of the Supreme Court and member of the Judicial-Legal Council, Mr. Chingiz Asgarov. In his remarks, he extended greetings to the participating teams and attendees, conveying his best wishes for their success. He further highlighted the unwavering support furnished to youth in Azerbaijan and underscored that initiatives of this kind represent a meaningful contribution to the advancement of the legal profession. Additionally, it was noted that the organizational support for the Olympiad was provided by the ‘Femida Volunteers’ Organization, which was established at the initiative of a group of volunteers associated with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
At the event, the Chair of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, Mr. Anar Baghirov, delivered a speech, underscoring the importance of legal competitions conducted within the country. He highlighted that, for the first time, Karabakh University participated in the competition organized with the support of the Bar Association and announced that all team members would be awarded regardless of the Olympiad’s outcomes.
Subsequently, the Chair of the Board of the Institute of Law and Human Rights, Mr. Mahammad Guluzade, elaborated on the critical role such initiatives play in cultivating an intellectually proficient and educated youth, while also emphasizing the broad opportunities provided for the enhancement of their professional expertise and academic capabilities.
The Rector of the Academy of the Azerbaijani Bar Association, Professor Amir Aliyev, Doctor of Law, along with the Head of the ‘Kangarli and Partners’ Law Firm, Mr. Ismayil Kangarli, extended their best wishes to the participants and provided a comprehensive explanation of the final competition’s rules and regulations.
Furthermore, the judges who served as jury members during the Olympiad were presented with certificates in recognition of their active engagement in the evaluation process.
Subsequently, the final stage of the Olympiad commenced, with each participating team being tasked to resolve three legal case studies in the domains of constitutional law, criminal law, and civil law. Teams were required to submit their responses within a three-hour timeframe.
The assessment criteria for the cases presented in the final stage were grounded in the accuracy of the legal reasoning, adherence to established legal practices, the precision of the proposed solutions, and their practical effectiveness.
Concurrently, a supplementary competition was organized amongst the team captains, who were presented with 20 questions designed to assess their socio-political and legal knowledge. The questions specifically focused on various aspects of the international and domestic activities of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev.
The maximum achievable score in the team competition was 130 points, while the captains’ competition offered a maximum of 20 points.
According to the final results of the Olympiad, the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan achieved first place with a score of 118 points. Second place was awarded to the Heydar Aliyev Academy of the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which scored 114 points, while the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was awarded third place with 113.25 points.
Based on the results of the competition amongst team captains, the Heydar Aliyev Academy of the State Security Service was awarded first place with a score of 20 points, followed by the Academy of Public Administration in second place with 12 points. The third place was jointly conferred upon the Customs Academy of the State Customs Committee and Karabakh University, each earning 10 points.
It should be noted that the preceding stages of the Legal Olympiad, which aimed to assess and develop students’ expertise in constitutional, criminal, and civil law, were successfully conducted on November 30 and December 14. Teams of law students from various law faculties across the country, including ADA University, the Academy of Public Administration, the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Heydar Aliyev Academy of the State Security Service, the Customs Academy of the State Customs Committee, Baku State University, Karabakh University, the National Aviation Academy, and Nakhchivan State University competed in the Olympiad.
