A training session on “The right to liberty and security” was held at the Khazar District Police Department

During the training session held on July 4 at the Khazar District Police Department organized by the Institute of Law and Human Rights in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was highlighted that the key responsibility of the Azerbaijani police is protecting people and their property from illegal acts, preventing such acts, respecting people's rights and freedoms, and preventing violation of these rights.

The training focused on the topic of “Right to liberty and security” stipulated in Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). This training program is designed for investigators to improve the level of their personal development and skills, as well as obtain methods of protecting human rights and freedoms while performing their duties.

The chief investigator for particularly important cases of the Main Investigation and Interrogation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Police Lieutenant Colonel Sabuhi Gasimov welcomed the participants and expressed confidence that the Institute's human rights protection training programs will be more effective and useful for police officers. He also stressed that the knowledge gained from these trainings will enhance the professionalism of police officers in their future activities.

At the training session, a comparative analysis of Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights and Azerbaijani legislation was conducted, and the right to safe life in the Constitution and the right to liberty in the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan were touched upon. The presentations were delivered by Vusala Muradkhanli, head of the department of the Institute, and trainer-expert Hamlet Babayev.

Following the case study analysis, participants engaged in group work, putting forward interesting ideas and proposals around the case study topics. At the end of the training, certificates were awarded to the 20 participants.

It should be noted that since 2023, 228 police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 11 districts and cities of the republic have been trained under Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
