Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, Rustam Mammadov

Born on April 30, 1956, in Baku.

From 1974 to 1980, he studied at the Faculty of Law of Baku State University (BSU).

Since 1980, he has worked at the Department of General International Law at BSU, initially as an assistant lecturer, and subsequently as a lecturer, associate professor, and since 1996 as Head of the Department.

In 1989, he defended his Candidate of Legal Sciences degree (Ph.D. in Law) at the USSR Diplomatic Academy in Moscow with a dissertation "The Legal Status of the Caspian Sea."

From 1997 to 2004, he served as Head of the Sector for Work with Azerbaijanis Living Abroad and International Non-Governmental Organizations at the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In 2006, he was awarded the title of "Scientist of the Year" at BSU and received a commemorative medal.

In 2007, he obtained his Doctor of Legal Sciences degree at the Institute of Human Rights of ANAS, defending his dissertation on "The Legal Status of the Caspian Sea (Theoretical and Practical Issues)."

From 2009 to 2010, he served as Chairman of the Scientific Council for the specialization in International Law at BSU. He is currently a member of the Specialized Scientific Council.

From 2011 to 2013, he was a member of the Expert Commission of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of The Republic of Azerbaijan.

Rustam Mammadov has been awarded the honorary title "Distinguished Education Worker of the Republic of Azerbaijan" by the Ministry of Science and Education, the "Taraqqi" Medal, the "Jubilee Medal in Honor of the 100th Anniversary of Baku State University," and the Gold Medal of the Turkic World Studies International Academy of Sciences for outstanding achievements in the field of Turkish Education and Science.

He is the author of 35 (including textbooks and monographs), and more than 200 scientific articles published in five countries and in four languages.

He has supervised 56 postgraduate researchers in the field of international law and is a member of the editorial boards of three Azerbaijani and two international academic journals.
