Characterized by the absence of internal borders and involved in the trade of all types of goods, the Customs Union is one of the main bodies of the European Union, as well as an important element of the functioning of the European single market. The single market can function properly only under conditions of uniform application of common rules at the external borders of the Union. This means that the 28 customs bodies included in the European Union should act as a single body.
